Shan Siddiqui

Shan Siddiqui is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Farmingdale State College. His academic interests lie at the intersection of race and ethnicity, immigration, health disparities, and social inequality. Specifically, his work investigates how social forces, such as racism and immigration enforcement, impact the health of communities of color in the U.S. Siddiqui's research has been published in several peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Refugee & Global Health, Journal of Immigrant and Minority Health, Frontiers in Public Health, Injury Prevention, and Journal of Asian Health.


In the classroom, Siddiqui uses a variety of high-impact teaching practices that promote collaboration, active engagement, and experiential learning, which allows his students to develop the skills to advocate for social change and promote health equity. Prior to joining academia, Siddiqui was an occupational therapist and worked in multiple clinical settings, including adult psychiatry, outpatient pediatrics, and acute care rehabilitation.
