Career Counseling FAQs
The best time to meet with a career counselor is when you first enroll as a student. This will allow you to take full advantage of the entire career planning process by the time you graduate. By utilizing of the services of the Career Development Center (CDC) during your time as a Farmingdale student, you will be more prepared and confident as you prepare for a lifetime of career exploration and growth.
Career Counselors provide career assessment and career counseling which help guide your self exploration and identification of the interests, skills and values which correlate to specific "best fit" career paths. This is especially helpful if you're unsure of your career goals. We are also available to help you with resume and cover letter preparation, networking and interviewing skills, the use of social media to enhance your professional online presence and job search strategies.
The Career Center does not offer job and internship placement; however, our web-based platform, CareerConnect, offers up-to-the-minute job and internship postings from hiring managers and recruiters who are looking for Farmingdale students and alumni. The Career Development Center is also able to assist you with your job search through Career/Job Fairs held each semester. By attending a Job Fair, you will have the opportunity to meet many company representatives in one location and present your resume for jobs or internships that are available. Job Fairs are advertised across campus and on the Career Development Center website. The Career Center also conducts an Employer Workshop Series, where industry representatives to visit the campus for individual on-site recruitment throughout the year. Appointments to meet with Cheryl Stratigos, our Career Counselor, are scheduled through FSC CareerConnect, our online career services platform. To register for CareerConnect, go to: https://farmingdale-csm.symplicity.com/students and register for a new account. You will receive an email asking you to verify your account information, after which time you will be able to schedule appointments through the system.
